There was one a turtle. The turtle lived a happy life, swimming in the cool water of the stream and playing with the fish and squirrels. One day, the turtle was attacked by a giant beast- her shell was cracked in a hundred places. The turtle felt defeated, scared, and alone. She pulled in her legs and hid in her broken shell- only coming out to eat and to look at all the cracks and cry. But as time passed, the turtle would look at her reflection in the pools of water, and she began to see that the cracks in her shell actually formed a beautiful pattern. Those cracks made her different from any other turtle, and she began to love her scarred shell. She finally saw that it was what her shell protected that mattered most. Her soft insides and her little turtle heart were still safe, thanks to her shell. And now her shell was more beautiful than any other creature in the forest. And that is the story of how the turtle got the patterns on its shell.
